Matching augments to champions: fit matters more than tier

ARAM Mayhem is champion-centered: normal augments must fit the champion’s mechanics, skill augments modify usable abilities, and quests must still be completed. A strong overall tier does not guarantee a good fit for your champion.

Key takeaways

  • Compare the champion’s result with the augment against that champion’s own baseline.
  • For skill augments, inspect the ability; for quest augments, inspect the objective and completion difficulty.
  • Two-augment combinations are rarer and should only inform candidates that have actually appeared.

Strong overall does not mean strong on your champion

The overall list mixes every champion that selected an augment. Champion-fit data asks how the pairing performed together. Start with the current champion’s lift and sample instead of automatically taking the highest-tier candidate.

Strong champions lift the raw win rate of many augments

A champion with a high baseline can make many augments look successful. Fit lift subtracts that champion baseline, making it more useful for choices inside one champion page. It remains an association rather than a guaranteed increase.

Different augment types require different checks

For normal augments, inspect trigger frequency, attacks, range, control, and durability. For skill augments, inspect the exact ability being changed. For quests, ask whether the objective is practical in a single-lane five-versus-five game.

Two-augment combinations are naturally rare

Both augments must be offered, selected, and claimed in the same game, so combination samples are much smaller. Use the list when a later candidate can pair with an augment you already own, not as a package you must force from the opening choice.

Judge the random candidates you actually receive

The system offers augments at random. Compare each candidate with your current champion, items, and existing augments. When no ideal pairing appears, a choice that provides immediate standalone value is safer than a bet on a future roll.

Remove unusable choices, compare fit, then check combinations

First remove options the champion cannot exploit or that conflict with the current build. Then compare champion lift, stage performance, and sample size. Combination data comes last and matters only when it connects to something already present.

Common mistakes

  • Using one overall augment tier list for every champion and every augment type.
  • Reading paired win rate without accounting for the champion’s own baseline.
  • Spending rerolls to force a high-win-rate pair while ignoring claim levels, quest completion, and useful current candidates.
